Next generation of Mercedes-Benz SL-Class appeared without camouflage
The current Mercedes-Benz SL-Class (R231) is not the most successful from the standpoint of sales, but the grand-tourer has played a very important role in the history of the German manufacturer. This is probably one of the reasons why the company will release a new generation of the SL, even despite a fact that a convertible S-Class already exists, and an open sports car Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster will come the next year.
Spotted prototype is based on the S63 coupe, but it received a shorter wheelbase and seems lowered ground clearance. While the current generation is built on its own platform, the new product will be developed on the modular architecture MSA, which also will become the basis of the next SLC.
Probably, the new SL will get a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 engine borrowed from Mercedes-AMG GT, which will be offered, along with a V12 unit. Considering that Daimler pays great attention to hybrid and electric vehicles, one of these alternatives may appear. It is rumored that the new model will get rid of electrically retractable hard top in favor of a soft one, which weighs less and takes up less space in the trunk when folded.
