Mercedes-Benz and Renault-Nissan will jointly build premium cars

The German manufacturer of premium cars – Mercedes-Benz Company made a contract of cooperation in several fields with the French-Japanese concern Renault-Nissan in 2010. It was about the three joint projects. Today they have 12such projects, and they do not intend to stop. The General Director of Renault-Nissan Carlos Ghosn declared that this cooperation will allow to launch faster some projects, and that the companies won’t stop to cooperate.

One of the last successfully implemented joint projects is a revealing of compact city cars on a single platform – Renault Twingo and smart Fortwo / Forfour. In June 2014 the partners announced their plans to build a plant for the production of compact premium cars in Mexico with capacity of 300 thousand units per year. In 2017 the new plant will release the line of brand new Infiniti, and a year later – the line of Mercedes-Benz.

The mutual supply of power train units is another joint project. Mercedes-Benz buys diesel 1.6-liter engine from Renault for its C-class. Two-liter turbocharged petrol engines, which comes from a joint plant in Tennessee (USA), are also used for the European version Infiniti Q50. French diesels and petrol economy engines are used as well on smart.
